Recognizing the need for a public-private partnership to increase services available to the temporarily homeless within the Northern Virginia area, the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA) created a wholly owned subsidiary, HomeAid Northern Virginia, a 501C (3) charitable organization.
Virginia has approximately 35,000 homeless people, many of whom are children. HomeAid Northern Virginia is committed to helping local individuals and families minimize the affects of homelessness on the health and well being of all family members.
Children without a home are twice as likely to have health problems as children with stable homes. Homeless children are also twice as likely to experience hunger, and four times as likely to have delayed development. It is estimated that almost half of the children in shelters are under the age of five. |
